Dr. Carr's Bio

Dr. Carr developed her interest in Physical Therapy growing up as a competitive gymnast. Through her intensive training and subsequent injuries she often found herself in Physical Therapy. The treatment she received to overcome her injuries was instrumental in allowing her to successfully train and compete at a high level for over 10 years. This positive early exposure combined with her love of science and medicine paved the way for her to become a Physical Therapist.

Dr. Carr attended Boston University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies in 2000 and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2002. She developed a fondness for the Washington DC area while living here during her last clinical affiliation and became a permanent resident when she accepted a position in the outpatient rehabilitation department at National Rehabilitation Hospital in 2002.  After practicing for a few years she desired to further her education and clinical skills by receiving her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2008 from the University of St. Augustine.

Through her 10 years of practice, Dr. Carr has developed specialties in orthopaedic and neurological rehabilitation. She believes expertise in each area reinforces the other and cross application strengthens her ability to provide high quality care. In 2008, she became Board Certified as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS).  In 2007, she earned her Certification in Manual Therapy (MTC) from the University of St. Augustine. Her “hands-on” skills are eclectic including, but not limited to, trigger point release using dry needling and manual techniques, myofascial release, massage, joint mobilization, muscle energy techniques, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).  Dr. Carr combines these manual treatments with specific exercise training depending on the needs of the individual.  She also frequently incorporates postural re-education into her treatment plan as quite often she finds that a significant cause of pain and injury is posture related.

In 2011, Dr. Carr decided to open up her own practice due to frustrations from working in traditional outpatient Physical Therapy clinics. She found the productivity pressures in these settings did not allow her to give optimal care for her patients. She believes that providing adequate time for her patient's needs delivered in a personalized 1:1 setting is essential for individuals to reach their therapy goals. The name of her practice, "One to One Physical Therapy," is highly indicative of the nature of the services provided. She handles the majority of her scheduling, is easily accessible to her patients via phone or email, maintains strong communication between other health care providers involved in the case, and most importantly is the only person the patient will have therapy with. This formula creates excellent continuity of care, customer service, and successful outcomes.
